So it's been 8 days since I had about 3/4 of my thyroid removed. Mainly it was because of the organ getting larger and larger, plus there  were a lot of nodes (is that the correct medical expression?). Anyway, now I am home again with a scar on my throat (about two centimeters), being away from work until after two weeks post surgery. I have been prescribed Eurythrox 50 (half a pill every morning) and besides the dizzy feelings caused by the sudden lack of calcium, I feel ok. This is because the surgeon did a pretty good job, and also because of big support from friends who accompanied me, visited me, gave me nice gifts and were just there for me.

In the first week of August my blood will be screened again for the thyroid and calcium values in order to newly adjust the medication. Until then, I will stick with what's there :-)

I never really cared about what I ate, honestly. When I still lived with my parents, my mother took care of it all, which means there was always enough vegetables, bread, and fruits for everybody. Later, when I moved out to my own small apartment, I really had no idea of cooking whatsoever and instead, went to the university diner where they cook and fry and serve everything with thick sauces that all taste the same inspite of their different colors.

Now at the age of 27, I am seriously starting to rethink my whole eating behaviour. Months ago, I decided to get away from fast food completely, which meant, no more burgers and stuff. I remember that I used a "special exception coupon" (I think there is someone who knows these coupons, [livejournal.com profile] unsp0ken_fear ;-)) twice, but generally refrained from eating fast food stuff on a regular basis.

What I do is try to get an equilibration into the whole thing, which also means
  1.  I will be eating fruits regularly (should be daily, but I am trying not to get overambitious)
  2. Bread will not be white bread
  3. Refrain from trash when being hungry between meals, and opt for yoghurt and similar stuff
  4. Eat smaller portions in order to help my sensitive digestion system.
As I know myseld in these terms, I am honest enough to admit that diets are not for me, and I hope the aforementioned terms will be a good start to improve my well being in general.
